- Commercial Name: Mai Tiew White Charcoal – Binchotan Style
- Product Code: BC-04
- Origin: Laos
Mai Tiew White Charcoal (Mai Tiew Binchotan) is a premium white charcoal produced from Mai Tiew wood in Laos using Japanese Binchotan-style production techniques. Through carbonization and high-temperature thermal refining, the product develops a dense structure, high carbon content, and exceptional combustion performance.
Once fully ignited, the charcoal produces virtually no smoke and no noticeable odor while maintaining high and stable heat output for an extended period. Its dense and uniform structure helps minimize breakage, sparking, and ash generation, making it highly suitable for professional grilling applications that require clean heat and precise temperature control.
Mai Tiew Binchotan is widely used in Japanese and Korean restaurants, Yakiniku and Yakitori concepts, steak houses, premium BBQ operations, cooking, heating, and specialty applications that require high-quality white charcoal and consistent performance.

Mai Tiew trees are highly adaptable to tropical climates, mountainous terrain, and the relatively dry soil conditions of Laos. Due to their strong natural growth characteristics, low maintenance requirements, and suitability for upland areas, this species has been encouraged by the Lao government for cultivation and legal utilization in white charcoal and carbonized product production.
Mai Tiew has a unique structure that combines characteristics of both hardwood trees and woody climbing plants. The wood is naturally hard, relatively dense, and dry, making it highly suitable for deep carbonization and high-temperature heat treatment required for Binchotan white charcoal production. One of the major advantages of Mai Tiew wood is its ability to minimize cracking and splitting during high-temperature refining — an important factor in producing premium-quality white charcoal.
Besides limited traditional medicinal uses in local communities, Mai Tiew wood is generally unsuitable for deep wood processing industries such as furniture manufacturing, construction materials, or other high-value industrial wood applications. Due to its irregular trunk shape, naturally curved structure, and relatively small diameter, most harvested Mai Tiew wood is utilized for charcoal carbonization production.
For Binchotan white charcoal manufacturing, Mai Tiew wood is carefully selected to ensure suitable natural dryness, hardness, and structural quality for deep carbonization processes. After the initial carbonization stage, the charcoal undergoes intensive heat treatment at extremely high temperatures based on Japanese Binchotan production techniques to almost completely eliminate remaining moisture, natural oils, and volatile compounds inside the charcoal structure.
Thanks to the naturally dry, dense, and crack-resistant characteristics of the raw material, Mai Tiew White Charcoal typically achieves excellent heat stability, minimal sparking, long burning duration, and fine white ash. These characteristics have made Mai Tiew Binchotan increasingly popular among Japanese restaurants, Korean BBQ restaurants, and premium grilling businesses across Asia as a high-performance white charcoal solution with more competitive pricing compared with some traditional Japanese Binchotan products.
